- About Medicura
A Calm, Dependable Place For Your Dialysis
Dialysis isn’t a one-off appointment. For most people it means three visits a week, every week, so where you go matters. At Medicura, you’ll see familiar faces every session and be treated in a clean, comfortable space. Our team takes time to explain what’s happening and why.
Treatment prescribed and reviewed by a nephrologist
Monthly blood tests to check your dialysis is working well
- Our treatments
Kidney care from diagnosis to dialysis
Whether you’re starting dialysis, moving from another centre or just visiting the area, we’ll help you settle into a routine that works.
blood tests
Regular tests show how well your dialysis is working and pick up problems like anaemia or high potassium early. We explain your results in plain language.
Fluid and blood pressure management
We help you keep fluid gains and blood pressure in a safe range. We also regularly review your target weight after dialysis (your “dry weight”)
CVC and dialysis access care
We handle your central venous catheter (CVC), fistula or graft carefully at every session. We check it regularly and refer you quickly if anything needs attention.
Nurses trained for emergencies
Our nurses are trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), so they can act fast if you become unwell during a session.
Temporary and transit dialysis
On holiday, travelling for work or between centres? We can arrange temporary sessions so your treatment stays on track.
Patient and transplant education
Clear, practical guidance on living well with kidney failure. This includes what a transplant involves and how to find out if it could be an option for you.

Do I need a procedure before starting dialysis?
Yes. You’ll need a vascular access, which is how the dialysis machine connects to your bloodstream. The two main options are a fistula, made by surgically joining an artery and a vein in your arm, and a catheter placed in your chest or neck. A fistula takes several weeks to a few months to heal before it can be used, while a catheter can be used right away. Talk to your doctor early about which option suits you.
What documents do I need for my first dialysis session?
Please bring your Identification Card (IC), your doctor’s referral letter, your latest blood test results, and any relevant hospital or medical reports. A list of your current medications is also helpful.
What happens during my first dialysis session?
Please arrive a little early so we can get you settled. Our team will weigh you, which helps us work out how much fluid to remove, and check your vital signs, such as blood pressure and pulse. We’ll then connect your access to the dialysis machine, which filters your blood while you rest.
How long does a dialysis session take?
Most sessions last about 3 to 4 hours. Your first session may be shorter while your body adjusts. Allow some extra time before and after for check-in and post-treatment checks.
Can I drive myself home after my first dialysis session?
Call us on [number] if you feel unwell between sessions. Call straight away if you can’t feel the usual buzz in your fistula. For chest pain, severe breathlessness or bleeding that won’t stop, call [emergency number] or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
